Government and Private Sector

The government almost has to be involved in the private sector, or the private sector would not be very organized. According to our text, “capitalism is an inherently undemocratic form of production” (31). It says that people in a business (more than likely bosses) have the right to hire, fire, direct, and run their people/business. However, they must follow the guidelines that the government already has put into effect for business owners. This is a case where the government intersects with the private sector, but it can be helpful for the most part.
Another good way that the government intersects is by globalization. Globalization allows for companies (especially car companies, like Toyota) to trade and buy from other countries. The government allows this and works with other countries’ governments to allow for this kind of action. The businesses make enough money to allow for this kind of ‘transaction’ to occur. (41).
“Capitalism does not simply distribute money and wealth unequally. It also distributes economic power unequally” (59).  So not only is our money distributed unfairly resulting in some people who highly wealthy and others who are living on the streets, there are people who are given power over others who should be receiving the same power. This can be from the government and also within themselves.
The Beastie Boys came out with a song called “This Government Needs a Tune Up” and in that song it talks about President Bush making money off oil, how abortion would soon be banned, and how the internet is now the governments new safety net in finding the information they need. This song has some power in it by saying how the government is leading the economy and what will happen if it stays the same.
So what would happen if a President came along and made all the changes we feel would be better for the private sector? Would the economy be happy that they get their way? Or would this be a never-ending fight? The answer to this question will probably never be answered, or it will because it will be a never-ending battle between what the economy wants and what the government thinks it needs.

    Peer Blog Review #1

As I started to decide which blog I wanted to do a critical review on, I realized I was being a bit bias in my decision making. I only was looking at the girls blogs, and I think it was because I wanted to see what other girls were doing instead of boys because naturally I’m a girl. I perceive the blog as calm, not too chaotic. It is a nice blue color, which makes me feel at ease when reading it. I feel like her vision is to better understand the government and the political system. Her blog is intriguing because it uses pictures, and good format.
I see strengths in her pictures, she uses pictures up front to grab your attention and make you want to read on. She uses interesting outside sources; like the Beastie Boys song, which would help younger people relate to her topic, and be able to understand her views from a young persons point of view. Music helps a lot in any generation, but using music that someone our age would listen to, makes the text more believable or able to persuade the reader. Her pictures are also entertaining, they aren’t serious, they make you laugh and that is always a good element in any reading.
Areas that could be improved could be making the text jump out at you more. I feel like with all the blue colors it makes you just look at the pictures and not really want to read all the text. I would recommend just changing the color of the text and making what you want your point of view to stand out more.
My overall summary of this blog is that it is a great start. I personally have never done a blog before either, so this is learning process for me as well. I like to look at our peers blogs for inspiration on how I could make my blog more interesting. I like her blog and all her elements she has put to use, to make it more interesting. Politics for some is a very boring topic, but when you can use pictures, cartoons and music to relate to politics, then anyone can relate to it!

The writer targets power of politics as an “unfair promise.” She illustrates the broken promises made to the American people from school closures to housing developments. The blog brings to light how the government has the power to give the people but currently does not. She also makes a clear note to the chain reaction between the government and the economy.
Overall I find the blog to have a lot of strength and character. I personally like how Jennifer openly attacks the wrongs of the government and of the economy. It shows that she has an open eye to her surroundings and the current state of the economy. I especially like the comical visual of how the people are in massive debt as well as our government.
There is some room for improvement, as there always is. For one, there can be some positive input in the areas that can be viewed as a positive. One such could be the economic stps that have been taken to keep us out of a great depression.
In conclusion, I like the view Jennifer presents. It coincides with my own view. She words things in a way that I could not as well as bringing to light subjects that are usually shyed away from.

Her blog is very interesting, and I enjoy the comics with each entry. They draw my attention to the entry’s and make me want to read them. I like how she highlights a question in each entry, it really ties the whole thing together. I like that I can read through it and form an opinion and the questions give me and insight to what she is thinking and I really enjoy that. I like the honesty that the blog shows and the how it uses real life situations. She does a good job using music, and things that are going on locally that I can relate to. Her blog shows strong opinions and that gives strength to the blog. I like how she uses situations that are easy to relate to. The blue on blue writing is a little hard to read, maybe a darker blue would help. Also the thicker writing is also a bit hard to read. Overall in her blog, she gives insight that relates to our questions of the week and of what we are learning in class. The blog flows and is consistent. I do not have any blog experience but I feel that she has done a great job in her blog so far.
